The film’s author is Scotsman Stuart Murdoch (pictured), singer and composer of the well-known indie band Belle & Sebastian. God Help The Girl is a musical film, born from a song, which talks about Eve, a girl who is being treated for emotional disorder in a hospital in Glasgow. She starts writing songs to cure herself and meets two musicians, James and Cassie.

Stuart Murdoch says he is inspired by the French Nouvelle Vague of Truffaut and Godard, the post-punk movement, musical films of the 70s and 80s, John Hughes’ classics, the British comedies of Bruce Robinson and Bill Forsyth, and by Glasgow itself.

A winning idea which convinced 334 "backers" to finance the film in exchange for their name in the closing credits and various gadgets.
