English actor and director Tim Roth will head the jury for Un Certain Regard, an integral part of the 65th Cannes Film Festival’s official selection. In this role, he succeeds Emir Kusturica whose jury last year chose to honour Stopped on Track [+see also:

film profile] by German director Andreas Dresen and Arirang by Korean director Kim Ki-Duk. This year’s festival will be held from May 16 to 27.

First revealed in The Hit by Stephen Frears, Tim Roth then became famous with Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino, two films that came to Cannes and where the second won a Golden Palm in 1994. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in 1995 for his acting in Rob Roy by Michael Caton-Jones, he also played roles in Don't Come Knocking by Wim Wenders, Planet of the Apes by Tim Burton, Funny Games U.S by Michael Haneke, and Everybody says I love you by Woody Allen. Italian director Nanni Moretti will head the jury for Cannes’ official competition this year, and Belgian director Jean-Pierre Dardenne will head the jury for the Cinéfondation selection and the short film competition.
