24/04/2012 - The Danish film boutique will represent the new Australian feature with 17 directors and Danish documentary about a possible way out of the financial crisis

Danish sales boutique LevelK, has picked up international rights for The Turning, an adaptation of Australian author Tim Winton’s 2005 novel, which will become the directorial debuts of Australian actresses Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska.

With 15 other directors from down under, they will each create a chapter from the book that link and overlap, exploring extraordinary turning points in ordinary peoples lives, as they face second thoughts and mid-life regret and probably change directions.

Backed by Screen Australia, The Turning will be produced by Robert Conolly, for Australia’s Arenamedia. Footprint Films-Madman Entertainment will handle the domestic release in spring 2013, while LevelK CEO Tine Klint will start presales at the upcoming Cannes.

Klint has also acquired Danish director-producer Eskild Hardt’s Planet RE-think, an Ace & Ace production focusing on global excess consumption of natural resources, presenting a sustainable economy and a way out of the global financial crisis.

“With a new mind-set, we can move forward with relatively simple means. Our film will hopefully encourage to push the world into a new direction, where the individual thinks more about how we a using our resources,” said Hardt.

Supported by the European Environment Agency and the UN Resource Panel, Planet RE-think will be world-premiered on June 17 during the upcoming Rio+20, the UN Summit on Sustainable Development, in Rio de Janeiro.

LevelK’s Cannes line-up further includes Scottish director John MacKay’s romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending, set in Glasgow, where it will shoot from next month (May). Jessica Brown Findlay stars in Claire Mundell’s Synchronicity Films production about a successful author who can only write when she is unhappy.
