A Belgian seaside weekend in High Heels, Low Tide

High Heels, Low Tide, a first feature by Ilse Somers, is out in Belgian cinemas this week. It’s a film for and about girls set to the nostalgia of holidays on the Belgian coast. Every year, Karen, An, Elke, and Dorien go off together on a girls weekend in which men are not allowed - at least not their official men! As they approach their thirties, it could be that this weekend is their last...

The four heroines are played by four great actresses: Eline Kuppens who acted in Left Bank [+see also:

as well as films in French like Get Born and A Son at Sea, Marieke Dilles who made a name for herself on television in Taste and then appeared in Dossier K, and Ellen Schoeters on the silver screen for the first time this week after multiple appearances on television, notably in Code 37 and Aspe.

High Heels, Low Tide, produced by Viviane Vanfleteren (Vivi Films), was made with the support of VTM, the VAF and Tax Shelter. It’s the latest film in the Faits Divers series, launched in 2003 by VTM and the VAF, so far behind films like Moscow, Belgium [+see also:

). The film has been released in about 30 Flemish cinemas by Starway Film Distribution. Although it might be difficult for it to beat last year’s 300,000 admissions for Code 37, released by the same distributor, one can still hope that the numerous “ladies nights” organised for the film’s release will generate enough word of mouth to help it past the six digit mark at the box office.
