The Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB), the subsidiary of public broadcaster ARD in the Brandenburg and Berlin regions, have signed a new agreement called Leuchtstoff for feature and documentary film production.

The agreement foresees aid to the production of five projects a year, of which two features and three documentaries, for which the television channel will provide €500,000, while the Medienboard and ARTE, along with other television channels, will contribute another €500,000.

Leuchtstoff is not a typical aid to production, but has rather been conceived as a workshop in which selected projects will receive advice and be given access to contacts in the industry, as well as aid to develop their screenplay. Participating institutions will also be involved in producing and launching the final products

In 2013, a similar programme called Leutchtstoff-Hochschulfilme is expected to be launched, through which the region’s two film schools (dffd in Berlin and HFF in Potsdam) will join forces with RBB and the Medienboard to fund eight final year audiovisual projects in each school.
