09/05/2012 - After several months of alarming paralysis in production, this May shooting has kicked off for new productions all around Spain

It seems that attempts by the ICAA and the Spanish producer federation (FAPAE) to dispel the current feeling of uncertainty in national film production (read more) have been effective. After a first trimester of worryingly few new productions (read more), many more fiction feature films started shooting in the second half of April and the first week of May.

Besides two very ambitious productions, Alacrán enamorado (read more) by Santiago Zannou and Los últimos días (read more) by the Pastor brothers (two Morena Films productions), other films have also started shooting, such as Mar Coll’s new film, still without a definitive title (for the moment, it’s known as El desconcierto), the thriller El bosc by Óscar Aibar (the name behind celebrated film The Great Vazquez [+see also:

film profile]), 15 años y un día by the returning Gracia Querejeta, the comedy Volare by Joaquim Oristrell, and Spanish-Romanian-Swedish co-production Anochece en la India (read more) by Chema Rodríguez, which notably received support from Eurimages.

The producers’ decision to roll the cameras on projects that they had kept on hold until now is without doubt a good sign in such fragile times. Although the system that the current government has said it would set up still remains very undefined (read more), the ICAA has shown its willingness to protect the sector, stressing the continued existence of aid for amortisation and a collaboration agreement with the official credit institute (ICO), whose renewal was signed yesterday.
