Franco-Algerian co-production The Repentant (El Taaib) by Merzak Allouache (read the review and watch the interview) has won the Europa Cinemas Label for best European film in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 65th Cannes Film Festival.

In the Official Selection, the Cinéfondation and short film jury headed by Jean-Pierre Dardenne handed outs the awards for the Cinéfondation competition in which 15 student films ran this year.
