13/06/2012 - The first edition of Rome's festival of audiovisual remix concluded on Saturday, June 9

The winner of the MAshRome Film Fest, the festival of audiovisual remix which took place in Rome on June 6-9 (see the news and the interview) is an animated collage of photographs and sound bites from radio series of the 1940s, Retrocognition, by US' Eric Patrick (photo). A criticism of the typical nuclear family of American TV, the film was chosen as the winner in the MAshPrime section (dedicated to film mash up) by the international jury chaired by the director of New York's Re/Mixed Media Festival, Tom Tenney, "for its ability to tell a story through the use of radio drama and in the style of a 60s TV series".

Germany and Russia also feature in the list of winners in this first edition of Rome's mash-up festival. For MashNew Experience (the most cross-cutting section, reserved for the interaction between film, arts and technologies), the jury presided over by radio presenter Alessio Bertallot, elected the film The Week: a Remi In Seven Chapters by Germany's Joanna Soyka, in which the seven days of the week are represented in the multiple intersecting of colours, characters and aspects which recur in life.

Finally, in the Talented Youth category (a competition for international film schools), the jury presided over by Luigi Vernieri, the director of the IED Visual Communication School of Rome's European Design Institute, chose the film Cabbagemincer by Russia's Vadim Viner, which portrays the hectic work of a cabbage mincer and his passion for women's feet.
