25/06/2012 - The largest showcase for Nordic films outside Scandinavia – in Lübeck, Germany – will focus on new and old sanguinary classics

Last year reaching 27,000 admissions for its five-day programme of around 150 titles, the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck, Germany - the largest showcase for Nordic films outside Scandinavia – has prepared a bloody retrospective for its 54th edition, which unspools between October 31-November 4.

In Cold Horror – Dread and Shudders in Scandinavian Cinema 1921-2011, artistic director Linde Fröhlich will present new and old sanguinary classics – from silent horror to modern high-tension genre films. Very aptly, the section will open on Halloween (October 31).

Introducing films and film-makers from Northern Germany, the Filmforum will celebrate its 25th anniversary. “When it started, the Land of Schleswig-Holstein was cinematically a terra incognita. Now it produces directorial highlights on a regular basis,” said Fröhlich.

The Nordic Film Days will mark the occasion by publishing a booklet, looking back at the 25 years of Filmforum programmes in Lübeck where such directors as Lars Jessen and Miguel Alexandre enjoyed their first successes.

With Norway’s Bergen International Film Festival, Lübeck will for the first time stage the Young Video Journalists project, in which five German and five Norwegian media-hopefuls will visit the festival and write scripts which will be filmed later under the guidance of experienced filmmakers.

And what does the audience think? During the event, attendees may enter the Festival-BOX – alone or in groups – and make a video comment on their impressions. The BOX will already be open during the summer, and the observations will be edited for this year’s festival-trailer.
