Filmax International launches pre-sales on Vivas and Carballo's new projects

by

- The Barcelona production company’s sales division has launched pre-sales on two co-productions with Canada, The Returned and Torment, as well as the new Miguel Ángel Vivas

Five films in different stages of their development have joined international sales agency Filmax International’s catalogue. Specialised in genre films like Filmax, the Barcelona-based production company that owns it, Filmax International sells its own productions as well as films produced by other companies, where it’s much easier to find titles that differ from this editorial line.

“At Filmax we have always had an international focus,” sales executive Iván Díaz explained at the recent Madrid de Cine. “Our idea has always been to use pre-sales to fund projects and we look for films with international potential”.

Two of these productions in development are set to start filming from next October in Canada, a co-producer for both films: The Returned, a thriller by Manuel Carballo (Exorcismus), and Torment, a slasher film by Canadian filmmaker Jordan Barker. Both will be shot in English.

Díaz stresses that filming projects in English allows them to have greater international impact, although there can be exceptions to this rule: “It depends on the film. [Shooting in] English generally helps, although there are projects for which it’s not so necessary. It has to make sense, it shouldn’t be gratuitous. It should work on the accent level, and the cast has to be credible. It has to be justifiable for the project.”

Aiming for the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013, Filmax International is also managing three other projects: the fourth and last instalment of the [REC] saga, called Apocalípsis, to be directed by Jaume Balagueró on his own, Miguel Ángel Vivas’s new film (Secuestrados [+see also:
