04/07/2012 - Danish actress Sofie Gråbøl to star in Danish Dogme director Søren Kragh-Jacobsen’s new feature, The Hour of the Lynx, which will shoot from later this summer

Danish actress Sofie Gråbøl (photo), of The Killing’s Sarah Lund and her Faroese jumper fame, will play the lead in Danish Dogme director Søren Kragh-Jacobsen’s new feature The Hour of the Lynx, it was announced yesterday (July 3) by Danish production outfit Nimbus Film ApS.

Gråbøl, who has performed in almost 50 films – and won both Danish film awards, the Bodil and the Robert, for Danish directors Henning Carlsen’s Oviri (1986) and Anders Refn’s Black Harvest (1993) – will play a vicar in the psycholical thriller from an original story by Swedish author Per Olov Enquist.

One of the original Dogme signatories - his Mifune (1999) won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale – Kragh-Jacobsen, who most recently directed What No One Knows [+see also:

film profile] (2008), will start principal photography for his 11th feature in September on location on the Danish isle of Funen and Northern Sweden.

Gråbøl will co-star with Signe Egholm Olsen (Borgen/Government) in the role of a scientific researcher, who comes to the vicar with a problem: she runs an experiment at a locked institution, helping violent, traumatised inmates by giving them the responsibility for pet animals.

film profile]), one of them, who has murdered an elderly couple, has been closely attached to a red cat - but one day he kills it and tries to commit suicide. The vicar offers her help, but her voyage into his wounded soul will change her life forever.

The €3 million psychological thriller, which SF-Film A/S (Denmark) will release domestically on May 23, 2013, will be staged as a Danish-Swedish co-production by Lars Bredo Rahbek, for Denmark’s Nimbus Film, with Sweden’s Bob Film Sweden AB, in collaboration with broadcasters DR, SVT, YLE and Canal+.
