Kusturica is short film president
Although he does not have a film at the 56th Cannes Film Festival (14-25 May), Emir Kusturica will preside over the short film and Cinéfondationjuries (who select films made by cinema school students). Kusturica was appointed on 11 March and replaces Martin Scorsese.
Kusturica is a graduate of the FAMU film school of Prague and went on to win two Palme d’Or awards at the French event for When Father Was Away on Business in 1989 and Underground in 1995 . Kusturica is currently directing his 7th feature, Hungry Heart.
