RAI: Mieli "thanks but no thanks"

Paolo Mieli will not, after all, be the next president of troubled Italian state broadcaster RAI. In a letter he sent to the presidents of the Senate and Lower Chamber of the Italian parliament, Marcello Pera and Pierferdinando Casini, Mieli, the former editor-in-chief of Italy's leading daily newspaper, Corriere della Sera and a top manager with RCS Publishing, said his reasons for turning the offer down were "technical and political".
