22/08/2012 - Swedish award-winning TV director Mikael Marcimain's feature debut – a political thriller with Pernilla August in the lead - will launch the 23rd Stockholm International Film Festival

Collecting numerous international awards for his television series The Grave (2004), The Laser Man (2005) and How Soon Is Now (2008), Swedish director Mikael Marcimain has finished his first feature, Call Girl, which Nordisk Film Distribution AB will release domestically on November 9.

Before going public, the political thriller will screen in the Discovery section of the Toronto Film Festival, and it will open and compete for the Bronze Horse top prize at the 23rd Stockholm International Film Festival, which runs between November 7-18.

"I have been an avid visitor to the festival since it started – I have even been member of the international jury – so I am both honoured and a bit nervous to have my feature debut selected," said Marcimain, whose film was staged as a Swedish-Norwegian-Finnish-Irish co-production by Mimmi Spång for Garagefilm International AB.

Scripted by Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten, with Pernilla August in the lead, Call Girl is set during the late 1970s – under the polished surface of the Swedish model society, other desires are eager to be fulfilled, and young Iris has been recruited from the bottom into a world where power can get you anything.

Launched on a three-minute promo in the European Film Market at the Berlinale, it sold Benelux (Lumière) and Korea (Sonamu Pictures), followed after Cannes by Russia-The Baltics (Maywin Media AB) and Czech Republic-Slovakia (Film Europe), for Denmark's TrustNordisk.
