The Calabria Film Commission Foundation, together with the Region of Calabria, is about to announce new sections within its Regional Operative Programme seeking to build a regional cinematographic production entity for production, post-production, and cinematographic distribution endeavours, including projection initiatives. The total investment for these activities will amount to three million euros.

President Gianluca Curti made the announcement during the recent Venice Film Festival. The Calabria Cinematographic Festival will be a part of the overall project, coproduced by the European Union. The ultimate goal will be the promotion of cinematographic culture in Calabria. This will also be done through highlighting local cinema culture, as well as local filming, landscapes, actors and writers. The Festival will be divided up into three sections, with one overseeing board: La primavera del Cinema (spring cinema) – Federico II Award, the Reggio Calabria FilmFest and the Magna Graecia Film Festival, for a total intake of 1,750,000 euros in the 2012-2014 period.
