Filming for Massimo Venier’s new film Il vedovo started on Friday 14 September, with actors Fabio De Luigi and Luciana Littizzetto. Adapted by Ugo Chiti, Michele Pellegrini and Massimo Venier, it is a remake of Dino Risi’s famous film by the same name, which starred Alberto Sordi and Franca Valeri (photo). The cast also includes Alessandro Besentini, Francesco Brandi, Roberto Citran, Bebo Storti and Ninni Bruschetta.

Il vedovo is the story of Alberto Nardi (De Luigi), a young failed entrepreneur, whose only successful coup was marrying Luciana Almiraghi (Littizzetto), a great industrialist from the North and one of the richest and most powerful women in the country. Luciana however, is bored of her ne’er-do-well husband and decides to leave him to struggle alone with his debts. While Alberto sees this as a tragedy, destiny has another plan in mind. Luciana is killed in a plane accident and Alberto becomes a billionaire overnight. His wife’s empire now belongs to him.

The dream is short lived. Luciana never got onto the plane in question and within 24 hours, the misunderstanding is resolved. She is as hard and determined as ever, while he goes back to simply being Almiraghi’s husband. Those few hours left a mark and Alberto starts to think about the ways in which he might free himself of his wife and go back to being an aspiring widow. With this, Venier, author of most films featuring comic trio Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo, signs his ninth feature length film. Il vedovo is produced by Itc Movie by Beppe Caschetto with Rai Cinema, and with the executive production of Pupkin Production and contribution from the Turin Piedmont Film Commission. It will be distributed by 01 Distribution. Filming will take place over the course of eight weeks between Turin and Val d'Aosta.
