Iron Sky's Kaukomaa named Finland's Producer of the Year

All the other aspects of the film actually pale in comparison to the fact that it has been funded, shot and distributed, ie produced, successfully," said the Central Organisation of Finnish Film Producers, when Tero Kaukomaa was named Producer of the Year for his "extremely bold and innovative approach" to the production of the black sci-fi comedy.

Organised by the Finnish associations of film producers, directors, actors, screenwriters, documentary filmmakers, film and video employées, the awards gala concluded the 3rd Finnish Film Week during the Helsinki International Film Festival - Love & Anarchy (September 28).

A Finnish-German-Australian co-production, Finnish director Timo Vuorensola's Iron Sky has so far taken 182,000admissions in Finland as a Buena Vista International Finland release. Partly backed by crowd funding and investment, the €7.5 million feature has been licensed to more than 70 territories by UK's Stealth Media Group.

– the depiction of an evacuation centre behind the Finnish and Russian frontier during World War II, where dead soldiers are prepared to be sent home – won not only Kirjavainen the prize from the Finnish Film Directors, but also a Best Actor award for Joonas Saartam from the Finnish Actors Union.

The Finnish Screenwriters Guild gave its nod to Veli-Pekka Hänninen (The Storage); Finnish pubcaster YLE's Sari Volanen was chosen as Best Documentary Producer; and gaffer-grip Tomi Lakonen (Once Upon a Time in the North [+see also:
