Dexter Fletcher sees Sunshine On Leith

- Filming underway in Scotland on feel-good Proclaimers musical

Actor turned director Dexter Fletcher (photo) has commenced a six-week shoot at Glasgow and Edinburgh locations for musical Sunshine On Leith. Writer Stephen Greenhorn has adapted his stage hit of the same name for the screen, featuring music by pop-folk band The Proclaimers. The film follows the stories of Davy and Ally, who have to re-learn how to live life in Edinburgh after coming home from serving in Afghanistan. Both struggle to learn to live a life outside the army and to deal with the everyday struggles of family, jobs and relationships. This is Fletcher’s second film as director after last year’s Wild Bill [+see also:

) and Arabella Page Croft and Kieran Parker from Black Camel Pictures (Outpost) are producing with financing from Entertainment Film Distributors (EFD), the British Film Institute Film Fund and Creative Scotland. EFD will distribute in the UK.

Arabella Page Croft said, “We want it to be one of those high-quality British films people go out to see because it makes them feel good about being Scottish, or British. If we achieve that, we’ll be delighted.”

The Proclaimers comprise identical twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid. Sunshine On Leith is also the title of their second album that went platinum in the UK and gold in the US. Their biggest hit single is the ever-popular ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ that’s been used on a number of film soundtracks, with the most recent being in Ken Loach’s The Angels’ Share [+see also:
