Italian Movies, a happy and ethnic tower of Babel

by

- Matteo Pellegrini lightly confronts the theme of integration. Distributed by Eagles in the Spring

Aleksei Guskov, from The Concert by Radu Mihãileanu, is one of the main actors in debut feature film by Matteo Pellegrini (photo). Italian Movies has been selected for the Italian Perspectives category in this year’s Rome International Film Festival.

Produced by Indiana production, Eagle Pictures and Lumiq Studios. The film lightly deals with the theme of integration, telling the story of a group of immigrants, who are cleaners in a television studio, but who successfully reinvent themselves as wedding film directors.

The result is a true linguistic tower of Babel - in the film, as well as on set. “The experiment was to tell true stories but to make them funny and emotional, all the while silently keeping the public in mind,” the director explained.

The director and the screenwriters Giovanna Mori and Paolo Rossi, tackled the multiethnic reality of Turin, where the film was made. “Many people in the film are not actors, they really brought their own stories and abilities, like the Russian tightrope walker or the fire eater."

Pellegrini, an experienced director of musical clips and advertising campaigns, spent a number of years on this project. It took the interest from an actor as big as Guskov to eventually let it see the light. Once he was on board, other international actors followed, like Eriq Ebounaey, Harvey Virdi, Neil D'Souza, next to Anita Kravos, Michele venitucci, Tiziana Catalano, Melanie Gerren and Filippo Timi.

Italian Movies will be distributed this Spring by Eagle Pictures.
