Creteil is the European capital of women’s films

The 25th edition of the International Women’s Film Festival gets underway today, 21 March in Creteil, France.
This year 20 features and 30 shorts, 80 per cent of which are first films, will compete for the top prize which was won last year by Germany’s Sandra Nettelbeck and her i>Mostly Martha [+see also:

. The most eagerly awaited European titles are Italian Cristina Comencini’s Il più bel giorno della mia vita [+see also:

, the Czech Republic’s Alice Nellis’ Vylet (Some secrets ), the UK’s Bille Eltringham with This is not a Love Song and Germany’s Suelbiye V. Guenar with Karamuk.

The IWFF takes place in three of Creteil’s cinemas and includes a review of 60 films by north European and Nordic women directors entitled Elles n’ont pas froids aux yeux; a tribute to Liv Ullmann and a series of lectures about the filmmaking process. A number of special evening events celebrating women directors who have made their mark in the industry are also planned for German actress and director, Margarethe von Trotta, (Katharina Blum), Marguerite Duras (India Song) and New Zealander Jane Campion (The Piano, An Angel at my Table).
