Ex-Carlton Cinema chief named BBC Head of acquisitions

George McGhee, currently head of digital film channel Carlton Cinema, has been appointed as the new head of BBC Programme acquisitions. He succeeds Sophie Turner Laing who moved to British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB).
McGhee who will join the BBC on 1 April, was responsible for programme acquisitions at Carlton Cinema from 1994-98 after a few years as chief buyer for TV Max and Max 1 in the Czech Republic. At the BBC acquisition department, he will oversee the work of Sue Deeks, head of series and Steve Jenkins, head of film.
