Dario Marianelli nominated for Best Original Score for Anna Karenina

Dario Marianelli (photo) is the only Italian in the running for this year’s Oscars. The composer from Pisa was nominated for Best Original Score for his work in Anna Karenina by Joe Wright. His relationship with British director is undoubtedly a successful one. He was nominated in 2006 for his music in Pride and Prejudice [+see also:

, and won the prestigious award the following year for his work in Atonement – both of which are Wright films.

“My first thought went to Joe Wright, I owe him so much,” was the warm comment made by the composer from his house in London. “Joe and I share a desire to treat music like a character in a film, when it enters a scene, it is impossible to ignore.  The music from Anna Karenina has a subversive tendency, much like the rest of the film.”
