The Bridge becomes tunnel between the UK-France and US-Mexico

- The Danish-Swedish television series, which outrated The Killing in the UK and won the International TV Dagger Award, is being remade for viewers on both sides of the Atlantic

While Danish producer Bo Ehrhardt, of Nimbus Film, in collaboration with Sweden’s Filmlance International are preparing the second season of The Bridge for pubcasters DRTV and SVT, the series which out-rated The Killingin the UK and won the British International TV Dagger Award for Best International Crime and Thriller Series is being remade for viewers on both sides of the Atlantic.

In the UK Sky Atlantic HD and Canal Plus will later this month start production for The Tunnel, written by among others Ben Richards (Spooks) and primarily set in Fokestone and Calais, following British detective Karl Roebuck and his French colleague Elise Wassermann's efforts to end a serial killer’s crime spree in a 10-part series.

The first joint UK-France crime project of this kind begins with the discovery of a dead politician in the tunnel under the English Channel. Anne Mensah and Fabrice de la Patellière will executive produce with assistance from Filmlance, and the English-French adaptation will air next year.

Another The Tunnel is already shooting for US with a cast including Demian Bichir (Weeds), Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds [+see also:

), Ted Levine (Silence of the Lambs) and Annabeth Gish (Mystic Pizza). In the FX cable channel production, detectives from the US and Mexico are teaming up to track down the murderer.

In the original The Bridge a dead woman is found on the Øresund bridge, right on the border - the top half is from a Swedish top politician, the bottom from a Danish prostitute. Top detectives from the Danish (Kim Bodnia) and Swedish (Sofia Helin) police are assigned to the case – and to the sequel, too.
