Highly acclaimed US director Jim Jarmusch (photo) will serve as executive producer of the documentary feature project Smash the Control Machine [+see also:

German producer Klaus Maeck from Interzone Pictures and director Aaron Brookner pitched the project in Berlin. The film tells the story of Howard Brookner, who died from AIDS in 1989 after he made three films - the documentary Burroughs: The Movie, Robert Wilson and The Civil Wars and Bloodhounds of Broadway with Madonna and Matt Damon, which was never released. When the New York bohemian made his first film on the writer and beat geneneration icon Burroughs in 1983, Jarmusch joined the film crew as sound man.

Brookner's nephew Aaron Brookner has also worked with the New York film-maker. He started his film career as an assistant on the production of Jarmusch's film Coffee & Cigarettes. "I can’t be happier and more grateful for Jim’s involvement," said Aaron Brookner. "I know that with great trust comes great responsibility so of course I have to be even more focus in creating a film that captures the audience’s imagination and inspires international audiences even more."
