The last scenes were shot at the Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, which hosted the Danish Children’s Song Contest 2013 between February 2-3: the general rehearsal for the televised show included a non-participant, the singer Sawsan with Look At Me, and was filmed for the final sequence in Miehe-Renard’s movie (photo).

Starring two 12-year-old musical talents, Sylvester Byder (Karl) and Malika Sia Graff (Sawsan), with Joakim Ingversen, Line Kruse, Ali Kazim and Lars Knutzon, The Song Contest Mission was scripted by Miehe-Renard and Danish author GitteLøkkeborg, from Løkkeborg’s 2009 novel.

The film follows Karl, who lives with his mother and grandparents in provincial Hvide Sande, when his mother decides they move to Copenhagen. At his new school 80% of the children are bi-lingual, the jargon is tough, so he plans to escape and return to his grandparents. He is joined by a class-mate, Turkish Sawsan, who is determined she will participate in the Children’s Song Contest against her family’s will.

The Song Contest Mission is produced without support from the Danish Film Institute by Henrik Møller-Sørensen and Marcella Dichmann for ASA Film, and backed by Danish pubcaster DR, regional filmfund Film Fyn and local producer-distributor SF Film, which handles domestic release.
