Searching For Sugar Man [+see also:
film profile], Oscar-winner for Best Documentary at this year’s Academy Awards, distributed around the world by Protagonist Pictures, will come out in Italian movie theatres with Unipol Biografilm Collection, in collaboration with Feltrinelli Real Cinema which will take care of its home video distribution (under the form of a dvd + book) and Sky Arte HD.
The Italian premiere will take place during the Biografilm Festival in Bologna (Bologna 7-17 June 2013), to which the distribution is tied.
Searching For Sugar Man by Swede Malik Bendjelloul tells the incredible story of the American singer-songwriter Sixto Rodriguez, who, forgotten in the United States, discovers he is the most popular singer in South Africa, where his songs became the symbol of the anti Apartheid revolution.
Starting with its world premiere during the 2012 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize, Searching For Sugar Man has been given over twenty international awards, including a BAFTA Award, Directors Guild Award, Writers Guild Award, America Cinema Editors and IDFA Award as best musical documentary.
