Benoît Calvez heads CICAE summer academy in Venice

Twenty-five-year-old Benoît Calvez has been promoted by CICAE President Detlef Roßmann and supervisory board member Christian Bräuer as new project manager for the summer academy 'ART CINEMA = ACTION + MANAGEMENT' in Venice. he event for upcoming arthouse exhibitors will take place from August 26 to September 1, 2013 during the 70th Venice Film Festival.

Calvez already organizes for the AG Kino–Gilde e.V. and the French Embassy in Germany the festival Cinéfête that focuses on films for the young audience. "It is a great challenge for me to work for an even more European-oriented and border-crossing arthouse project," said Calvez. "I am already looking forward to very intense and inspiring discussions and workshops in Venice."

In addition, the Paris-based CICAE (International Confederation of Art Cinemasis going to open a second branch in Berlin on April 1, 2013. "With an even closer co-operation between the art-house cinemas in Europe and an intensification of the German-French partnership, we want to strengthen the CICAE on the long run," said Roßmann. "This expansion reflects the growning importance of Europe for the arthouse sector which requires a more active networking with politics and the  industry associations in Europe," added Bräuer. "That is why we have the CICAE and  the AG Kino–Gilde e.V. for quite some time."

The CICAE wants to increase networking between art-house exhibitors on a national and international level. The CICAE unites more than 3,000 art-house screens in 30 countries in Europe, South America as well as Africa. In addition, there are around 20 film festivals such as Venice, Cannes and Locarno associated with the CICAE.
