The Gopos announce nominations

 (photo) is the most nominated film at the Gopos, the Romanian film industry awards, with 11 nominations. The film's success is caused by Cristian Mungiu's refusal to be nominated for Beyond the Hills [+see also:

, which received screenplay and acting awards last year at Cannes and was shortlisted for the Oscars' Best Foreign Film in January. Mungiu's decision caused trouble for this edition of the awards: the organizers chose to give up the Best Actress category, as there wouldn't have been enough options without Cosmina Stratan and Cristina Flutur, the leading actresses in Beyond the Hills.

Somewhere in Palilula will vie for Best Film along with Radu Jude's Everybody in Our Family [+see also:

. The directors of these four films are also nominated for Best Director.

Serban Pavlu (Everybody in Our Family), Adrian Titieni (Chasing Rainbows [+see also:

) and Gabriel Spahiu (Adalbert's Dream) have a chance to win the Best Leading Actor award. With no nominations for Best Leading Actress, Mihaela Sirbu (Everybody in Our Family), Tamara Buciuceanu-Botez (Everybody in Our Family), Alina Berzunteanu (Of Snails and Men) and Ozana Oancea (Adalbert's Dream) could win a Best Supporting Actress award.

Somehwere in Palilula leads theas year's gala with 11 nominations, followed by Everybody in Our Family and Adalbert's Dream, both with nine nominations, and Of Snails and Men, with eight.

61 features, documentaries and short films produced or co-produced in Romania and domestically released in 2012 were considered for this edition of the Gopos. The number shows a 30% decrease on 2011, with 98 films considered at the last edition of the awards. Four hundred voting filmmakers, critics and journalists will decide the winners, to be announced during a gala event on March 25.
