2012 brings 15% decrease on 2011

- Without the powerful domestic releases of the previous year, Bulgarians focus on Hollywood blockbusters during 2012

After a 18% increase in 2011, the Bulgarian box-office went back to “normal” last year: it registered a 15% decrease on 2011, caused probably by a lack of extraordinarily popular domestic releases. If 2011 was dominated by three Bulgarian films with more than 140,000 admissions, things changed in 2012, when only one local production reached 50,000 admissions.

The total number of admissions in 2012 amounted to 4.10 million, compared to 4.72 million in 2011. If 2010 was dominated by Dimitar Mitovski's Mission: London [+see also:

with 376,000 admissions and 2011 by Ilian Djevelekov's Love.net with 206,000 admissions, the best received Bulgarian release of 2012 was Niki Iliev's romantic comedy The Foreigner (photo), with 55,866 admissions, according to data made available by the Bulgarian National Film Centre.

Other successful Bulgarian releases of 2012 were Stanislav Donchev's action comedy Rapid Response Corps (47,559 admissions), Georgi Kostov's gangster comedy Pistol, Suitcase and 3 Stinking Barrels (45,898), Ivan Mitov's 2011 hit Operation Shmenti Capelli (still in cinemas in 2012, 20,241 admissions), and Ivo Stajkov's romantic comedy Puzzle [+see also:

As for Hollywood blockbusters, they took the lion share: the best received film of 2012 was Ice Age 4: Continental Drift, with 241,000 admissions, followed by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (163,000) and Skyfall [+see also:
