03/06/2013 - In his new film the Danish director, who has decided to 'refrain from any public statement, and concentrate on my films', introduces digressionism

"…Accordingly I have decided that from now on I will refrain from any public statement, and concentrate on my films," declared Danish director Lars von Trier on October 5, 2011, after being interrogated by the police concerning an accusation by the local prosecutor in Grasse, France. He had allegedly violated French legislation against glorifying war crimes by his proclamations at the press conference after the screening of his then-latest feature Melancholia [+see also:

The director hasn't said a word since, but Danish production company Zentropa Entertainments and international sales agency TrustNordisk has secured the presence of his new feature, Nymphomaniac, in the market place by a marketing campaign introducing a teaser poster, a website, the first stills from the production, premiere dates and now a new publicity style, digressionism.

film profile] consists of eight chapters, encapsulating both Volume 1 and Volume 2, starting with 'The Complete Angler' and ending with 'The Gun'. From June onwards, excerpts of these chapters will be published exclusively by selected newspapers around the world, defined by a headline, a still and a short narrative, "to playfully unveil the multi-layered universe of the film".

From June 28, the chapters will gradually feature on the Nymphomanic website, where von Trier is pictured, with his mouth taped (photo). - Starring French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, the film depicts the life of a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac from birth to 50; Nordisk has scheduled domestic release for December 25.
