Italian Golden Globe: the foreign press awards Italian cinema

by

- The award has made some changes with a larger jury and fewer awards. The Great Beauty is the most nominated film. Career awards for Giuseppe Tornatore and Franco Zeffirelli

The award ceremony for the 53rd edition of the Italian Golden Globe will take place this year on July 3 at the Palazzo Farnese, France’s Italian embassy in Rome. The award by the foreign press has undergone some changes, with a larger jury made up of reporters from over 20 different countries, and fewer award categories – amounting to 11 – including shorts and documentaries. Two career awards will be handed out, one to Giuseppe Tornatore, and the other to Franco Zeffirelli; as well as one foreign press special award.

“I am glad we decided to go back to what the original idea for the Italian Golden Globe was, which was to award fewer films, privileging those that had something significant to say in terms of Italian life and culture – something us foreign journalists try and understand and describe in the best way possible,” commented John Francis Lane, one of the founders of the Italian Golden Globe in 1959, who authored a memoire on Italian cinema called To Each His Own Dolce Vita.
