Director Bryn Higgins (Unconditional) has commenced a six-week shoot at London and Northeast locations for Electricity, adapted for the screen by Joe Fisher (St. Nazaire) from Ray Robinson’s acclaimed novel of the same name.

Agyness Deyn (Pusher [+see also:

film profile]) stars as a brash young epileptic woman, Lily, who lives in a remote Northeast coastal town and has bouts of vivid hallucinations who finds out that her long lost younger brother is in London and in trouble, and she sets off on a journey to save him. The film also stars Lenora Crichlow (Fast Girls [+see also:

Deyn said, “I love Lily’s journey, she is a survivor. Her strength and her ability to live in the present really drew me to her. She is a delight to discover and she’s teaching me a lot.”

Clare Duggan is producing for the UK’s Stone City Films and the film has the backing of the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Fund and the Wellcome Trust. UK rights are with Soda Pictures. The budget is estimated to be £1.3 million.

Following Electricity, Deyn will go on to play the lead in Terence Davies’ adaptation of Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s classic novel Sunset Song [+see also:
