Karlovy Vary IFF to welcome and honor John Travolta

Hollywood superstar, two-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner John Travolta will be presented the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at the upcoming Karlovy Vary International Film Festival – the largest film event in central and eastern Europe. “A gala screening of the film Killing Season will also be held on the occasion,” the festival´s press release reads.

French actress Audrey Tautou – star of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Amélie, which won the festival in 2001, where the film ignited her international career – will return to present the opening film, Michel Gondry's (also in attendance) Mood Indigo [+see also:

opened Karlovy Vary two years ago, returns to present Sleepwalking in the Rift, an installation created for the fashion label Maiyet.

. British actor Julian Sands will be in town with his theatre performance 'A Celebration of Harold Pinter'.

The festival has also revealed its juries. As previously announced, director Agnieszka Holland will preside over the Grand Jury with Berlinale winner, director Claudia Llosa and producer Sigurjon Sighvatsson (Basquiat, Wild at Heart) on board. Young German director Jan Ole Gerster also returns to sit on the jury of the Forum of Independents. His film Oh Boy! [+see also:

premiered in Karlovy Vary last year in this competitive section and recently won all the major awards at the German Lola awards.

The 48th Karlovy Vary IFF runs June 28–July 6 2013.
