€3 million from the Lazio region for the digitalisation of cinemas

- This is the amount allocated to small and medium size businesses from the cinema sector to enable investments and updates towards digital cinema screenings

An allocation of €3 million, with contributions of up to 70% and a limit of €200,000, has been put aside by the Lazio region for small and medium size businesses from the cinema sector towards the facilitation of digital financing across the board.

The funds will be distributed through an online platform until they run out. Funds representing 50% of costs and an extra €400,000 will be released for non profit organisations and community cinemas through the regional fund for the cinema and audiovisual industry 2011 (“Fondo regionale per il cinema e l'audiovisivo 2011”).

According to data released by Anec Lazio, the region has 123 cinemas, for a total amount of 437 screens (245 digitalised). Rome has 82 cinemas and 333 active screens (208 digitalised). “We were coming close to the closure of many Rome and Lazio cinemas, but thanks to these funds which come from European development funds, we will be able to help cinemas renew themselves rather than close,” the region president Nicola Zingaretti declared.
