Cognac-fuelled Crime

The programme of the 21st edition of the Cognac Crime Film Festival, which will run from 10-13 April, was unveiled today, 28 March.
A number of European productions are taking part in the Official Competition, under this year's jury president, French actor Vincent Lindon. Cognac has a long and well-deserved tradition of showcasing films with strong commercial and artistic potential and this year will be no different. The list of films includes La caja 507 by Iberian director Enrique Urbizu, Corps à corps by France's Arthur-Emmanuel Pierre and François Hanss, and starring Emmanuelle Seigner and Philippe Torreton, and Un nouveau Russe by Pavel Longuine.

The sidebar sections feaures the Sang Neuf jury, presided over by the pre-eminent French film critic, Serge Toubiana, who will reward the year's best new directing talent: the Europeans amongst this year's competitors are Denmark's Nicolas Winding Refn with Fear X, Spain's Paco Plaza with El segundo nombre and Belgium's Philippe Blasband with Un honnête commerçant [+see also:

Another highlight of this festival is the Short Film & TV-Film Competition, and the inagural premiere of Mais qui a tué Pamela Rose? by French director Eric Lartigau. The Cognac event will end on 13 April with Crime Spree by Canadian Brad Mirwan, starring Harvey Keitel, Gérard Depardieu, Johnny Halliday and Renaud.
