05/07/2013 - The Dardenne brothers receive funding from Wallimage for their new project, Deux jours, une nuit, as well as a surprise guest, iconoclastic US filmmaker Abel Ferrara

As filming of their new movie just began in the well-known area of Seraing, the Dardenne brothers have obtained funding from Wallimage for Deux jours, une nuit, the short but determined struggle of a young woman to keep her job after being fired so that her colleagues could get their annual bonus. The cast features a new choice recruit, Marion Cotillard, who will share the screen with two actors loyal to the Dardenne universe (Fabrizio Rongione and Olivier Gourmet), and two talented Belgian actresses, Christelle Cornil and Catherine Salée.  The film, produced in Belgium by the brothers’ company, Les Films du Fleuve, is being coproduced by their usual French partner, Archipel 35, as well as the Italian company Bim. It will be sold by Wild Bunch and benefit from a 7 million euro budget. It in fact recently received funding from Eurimages, just like two other laureates of this Wallimage session.

They include Bouboule by Bruno Deville, a director of Belgian origin settled in Switzerland. The movie, filmed this summer in Namur, notably with Julie Ferrier, tells the story of Bouboule, a 12 year-old boy who weighs 100 kilos and feels cramped in the gynaecium formed by his mother and sisters, and occasionally bullied by the gang-leaders in his neighbourhood. The film is produced by Cab Productions in Switzerland, and coproduced by Versus for Belgium.

Another project backed by Wallimage is the unexpected Pasolini by American director Abel Ferrara, which, as indicated by its name, focuses on the last day of the Italian director who will be played by Willem Dafoe. Pasolini, produced by Capricci Films (France) and Urania Pictures (Italy), is to be handled in Belgium by Tarantula.

Finally, Wallimage is also backing Une suite française [+see also:

film profile], based on the romantic saga by Irène Némirovsky, directed by British actor Saul Dibb (The Duchess [+see also:

film profile]), with Michelle Williams, Kristin Scott Thomas, Sam Riley and Matthias Schoenaerts in the cast. Filming, which began in June, will take place half of the time in Wallonia. It is financed by Scope Pictures for Belgium.
