Dan Chisu finishes shooting Bucuresti NonStop

Romanian director Dan Chisu (photo) has finished shooting Bucuresti NonStop [+see also:

, his sixth feature and fifth entirely independent production. The film's events take place during one night when four interconnected stories happen around a central character, "the nonstop boy" (Gheorghe Ifrim), seller at a nonstop shop in a poor Bucharest neighbourhood. "The films tells the story of ordinary people in extraordinary situations," according to a press release from the production company.

Ignored by the National Film Centre at the most recent grant session, Dan Chisu succeeded in raising the €625,000 budget with the help of dozens of private companies. Bucuresti NonStop stars some of the most popular Romanian actors, such as Gheorghe IfrimIon BesoiuDorina LazarToma CuzinAdrian TitieniOlimpia Melinte, and Alexandru Papadopol.

The film was produced by DaKINO Productions with the help of Watch Me Productions and Stop Film. The domestic release is expected next spring.

With his new feature, Chisu becomes the most prolific Romanian independent filmmaker, in a film industry where the vast majority of new productions receive grants from the National Film Centre. The director's most popular film to date, The Bear, sold almost 15,000 tickets in 2011.

Deja Vu, Chisu's previous independent feature, debuted in June in the Romanian Days sidebar at the 12th Transylvania International Film Festival. The film will be domestically released in autumn.
