Starring French actress Juliette Binoche (photo) Norwegian director Erik Poppe’s drama, A Thousand Times Good Night, will have its world premiere in competition at the 37th World Film Festival in Montreal, while It’s Only Make Believe by Norwegian director Arild Østin Ommundsen has been selected for the Focus on World Cinema sidebar. Binoche, who won an Oscar for The English Patient (1997) and was nominated for Chocolat (2001), plays with Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Norwegian actor Mads Ousdal, Irish actors Maria Doyle Kennedy and (also U2 drummer) Larry Mullen Jr in Harald Rosenløw Eeg’s story about a famous war photographer, Rebekka.

Mainly shot in Dublin and Morocco, with detours in Kenya and Kabul, and inspired by Poppe’s own experiences as a war photographer in the 1980’s, the film describes how she is seriously wounded whilst following a suicide bomber in Kabul. When she returns home, she is met by an ultimatum – her job or family.

A Thousand Times Good Night was staged by Norwegian producers Finn Gjerdrum and Stein B Kvae for Paradox in collaboration with Ireland’s Newgrange Pictures and Zentropa International Sweden. Local distributor Euforia has scheduled the domestic release for October 18, while Germany’s Global Screen will handle international sales.

Scripted by Ommundsen, and produced by Gary Cranner for Chezville, It’s Only Make Believe depicts the return of a young woman who has spent 10 years in prison for murder. She wants to live a quiet life, but shadows from the past soon start to appear. The film was domestically released on March 22 by Star Media Entertainment.
