“This agreement will allow us to shine a bright light on emerging filmmakers,” Geoff Gilmore, director of the Tribeca Film Festival underlined. “The Safdie brothers are talented artists who represent a strong voice from independent American cinema. Exactly the type of talent we want to promote in Venice.”

Lenny Cooke, the first feature film by the Safdie brothers (already known for Daddy Longlegs, presented in Cannes and winner of a Gotham Award and Independent Spirit Award) looks into the reasons why the most promising high school basketball player in 2001, valued above future champions such as LeBron James and destined to become a big star in American basketball, never played a minute in the NBA. Lenny Cooke will be screened in an international sneak preview as a special event on Tuesday, September 3.
