(discovered in Toronto in 2010 and 2011), as well as L'illusion comique by Mathieu Amalric (selected for the Spectrum in Rotterdam in 2011), the production company Les Films by Pierre, managed by Hugues Charbonneau and Marie Ange Luciani, follows up with two films selected for the 70th Venice Mostra (August 28 to September 7, 2013).

The feature film, which benefitted from a total budget of 2.16 M€, notably including an advance on receipts from the CNC, a pre-purchase by Canal+ and the backing of the Aquitaine region, will be distributed in France by Sophie Dulac and sold internationally by Films Distribution.

The second Venetian asset of Les Films de Pierre is Salvation Army [+see also:

by Abdellah Taïa, which will premiere on the Lido during the Critics’ Week before joining the Discovery section of the Toronto Film Festival (September 5-15, 2013). As a first feature as a director by the author (who adapted his novel by the same name), the film portrays the impossible love between a Moroccan teenager and his elder brother in a family where silence and violence are the absolute masters. The cast features Said Mrini, Karim Ait M'hand and Amine Ennaji, while Agnès Godard is in charge of cinematography. Salvation Army was coproduced by Les Films Pelléas, the Swiss from Rita Production and Moroccan company Ali N'Films, for a total budget of 1.15 M€ including an advance on receipts from the CNC. The international sales are handled by Pascale Ramonda.
