Discovered at the closing of the Certain Regard last year in Cannes (read the review), Renoir is played by Michel Bouquet, Christa Theret and Vincent Rottiers on a screenplay co-signed by the director and Jérôme Tonnerre. Produced by Marc Missonnier and Olivier Delbosc for Fidélité Films in coproduction with France 2 CinémaMars Films (which handled the French release) and Wild Bunch (which managed the international sales), this film is the 4th feature by Gilles Bourdos, revealed with Disparus in the Directors’ Fortnight in 1998 and who later signed Inquiétudes (2004) and the English-language feature Afterwards (discovered in Toronto in 2008).

The selection commission, which includes Thierry Frémaux (General delegate of the Cannes Film Festival) and Paul Otchakovsky-Laurens (President of the advance on receipts of the CNC) as permanent members, this year welcomed actress Isabelle Adjani, director Laurent Cantet, producers Alain Terzian and Estelle Fialon, and scriptwriter Sylvette Baudrot.
