Comeravamo Contest: the winners

- The first edition of the competition for films created with amateur archive images took place in Bracciano within the context of the Gusto della Memoria festival, which ran September 12-14

To give images a second life and transform them into amateur videos, as well as the memories of individuals into a precious common visual heritage. That was the idea behind the Comeravamo Contest (which translates into the ‘how we were’ contest), the first international competition dedicated to archive amateur images which first edition took place in Bracciano within the context of the Gusto della Memoria (‘taste of memory’) festival (12-14 September), headed by director and editor Cecilia Pagliarani, with the collaboration of Stefano Amadio of Cinemaitaliano.info (read the news story).

The competition was articulated into three sections: fiction, documentary and advertising. Participants needed to use at least 60% of images from the archive centre Nosarchives.com (read the news story), which is the first one in the world to include amateur videos and images curated in Full HD and filmed between 1922 and 1984.

The following are the prizes given out during the festival’s closing evening, which was graced by the presence of director Gianni Amelio, back from Toronto where he presented his film The Intrepid (also in competition in Venice), and actress Euridice Axen:

Best film – fiction category
LA ROSA - by Paola Manno and Sergio Recchia
For its intellectual courage and originality

Best film – documentary category
GLI ZOCCOLI NUOVI - by Daniel Marzeddu
For its stylistic maturity

Best film – advertising category
LA CROCIERA - by Simone Mancini and Edoardo Astolfo
For using repertory material like it was current

Poetic award, given by Fiorella Infascelli:

Special jury prize
EU -DAYMONIA - by Rita Rocca
For its screenplay and production originality

La prossima edizione del festival avrà un nuovo bando aperto alle scuole e per i ragazzi under 16 a tema: QUESTO SONO IO, per film di vere e false autobiografie, film di fiction e documentari, che sarà pubblicato in ottobre sul sito www.nosarchives.com.

Il festival Il Gusto della Memoria 2013 è stato realizzato in collaborazione con il Comune di Bracciano, nosarchives.com - archivio di cinema amatoriale, il portale cinemaitaliano.info, Cineuropa, Urban Experience e Bic Lazio.
