27/09/2013 - The Oscar-winning director will direct the project inspired by the collective film Life in a Day made by Ridley Scott in 2010. A production by Indiana Production and Rai Cinema

Just a few days before beginning shooting his new film, Il ragazzo invisibile (read the news story), Gabriele Salvatores is set to announce the launch of a completely original project in Italy, which he will direct: Italy in a Day, the first collective film to be made by all Italians and which will pick up on the experience of Life in a Day, identified by Ridley Scott in 2010 and followed by Britain in a Day and Japan in a Day, made in the United Kingdom and Japan, meeting great success.

The chosen day is 26 October 2013, “a normal autumn Saturday.” Everyone is invited to send their own video contribution, from their phones or cameras, showing a fragment of a day in their lives, whether it is extraordinary or perfectly normal. “We always say that cinema should tell the story of our own lives. For once, we are asking people to stop being directed and to tell who they are themselves,” the Oscar-winning director said. He will take care of material selection, editing and story creation, in order to make a film of around 90 minutes in length.

“It is an interesting challenge and a great responsibility,” Salvatores went on, “because here, the author is putting himself at the service of citizens’ emotions and thoughts. A project that is beyond cinema and documentary.” The film, produced by Indiana Production and Rai Cinema, will come out as an event in cinemas and will then be shown on the Rai network. Promotion for the project will start on September 30 with a campaign whose sponsors will include Christian De Sica, Luciana Littizzetto and Micaela Ramazzotti, among others.
