Nordic noir becomes European: The Team starts €10 million shoot in Copenhagen

After four years of preparations, Denmark’s Nordisk Film Productions, with international partners including Germany’s ZDF Television, will start shooting of The Team, an international crime television series, on October 21, beginning in locations in and around Copenhagen, then Belgium, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, to conclude on June 30 next year.

The new Copenhagen Film Fund has chipped in €335,000 to the production of the €10 million serial of eight episodes, each 58 minutes, scripted by Danish writers Peter Thorsboe and Mai Brostrøm (both credited with The Eagle/2005 and Unit 1/2004), and directed by ao Katrine Windfeld (photo - The Bridge/2013, Rita/2013, The Killing/2012).

The Team is a Danish crime series in English, travelling the world – but the heart of the show is Danish, and its centre is Copenhagen,” said German lead producer Peter Nadermann, previously ZDF Enterprises executive, now with Germany’s NADCON. “It has been essential to the production that the Copenhagen Film Fund has decided to be involved,” added Nordisk Film producer Thomas Heinesen.

Instigated by Germany’s ZDF television and NetWork Movie, The Team is produced with Belgium’s Lunamie, Switzerland’s Superfilm, and broadcasters DR-Denmark, SVT-Sweden, ORF-Austria and French-German ARTE. It will be ready for transmission late 2014/early 2015, in Denmark by pubcaster DR1.

“Backing the first European multi-lingual crime series, from the now famous Nordic noir concept, with Danish talent partly filmed in our region, is one of the best examples of what we are here for,” concluded managing director Thomas Gammeltoft, of the Copenhagen Film Fund.
