Srđan Golubović’s Circles takes top prize at CinÉast

The 6th edition of Luxembourg’s Central and Eastern European Film Festival, CinÉast, has come to an end yesterday. This year, the Grand Prix went to Serbian filmmaker Srđan Golubović’s Circles [+see also:

(photo). The festival is the latest event to honour the film, which has already taken prizes at Sundance, Berlin, Sarajevo and Sofia.

“This is a touching cinematographic fresco of the post-war society. It addresses important moral issues but without lecturing. We were very convinced by the clever and surprising structure of this film and its impressive acting," said President of the Jury Donato Rotunno on Golubović’s film about the wounds of the Yugoslav Wars.

The other big award given by the festival, the Special Prize of the Jury, went on to Márk Bozsár’s Heavenly Shift [+see also:

, the story of a paramedic who discovers the dark side to his job. “A gripping, entertaining and humorous story. A literally heart-breaking and crazy ride through life and death. We wanted to encourage a director who showed a genuine love for film-making," stated Rotunno.

The festival’s Audience Award also went to Circles. In the category of short films, the festivalgoers decided to recognise the quality of Izer Aliu’s To Guard a Mountain (fiction), Anete Melece’s The Kiosk (animated) and Mateusz Głowacki’s Survey About Women (documentary).

The awards ceremony was followed by the screening of Jury member Katarzyna Klimkiewicz’s last film Flying Blind [+see also:

. The festival, which included over 50 feature films and 50 shorts from 15 countries, has attracted over 6000 spectators.
