Edgar Reitz, guest of honour at Locarno’s L’immagine e la parola

- The second edition of the Primavera Locarnese event will take place in the Swiss city from April 12 to 15

German filmmaker Edgar Reitz will be the guest of honour at the second edition of L’immagine e la parola, part of Locarno Film Festival’s spring spin-off event Primavera Locarnese. One of the masters of New German cinema, the auteur behind the saga Heimat, will hold a workshop for film students at Ascona’s Monte Verità, and a panel to discuss the ways in which cinema can represent History, addressed to all audiences.

The event, which will take place in the Swiss city from April 12 to 15, celebrates its second edition, after last year’s which featured Russian filmmaker Aleksandr Sokurov. Reitz will also present his latest Heimat instalment, Die andere Heimat – Chronik einer Sehnsucht [+see also:

(Home from Home: Chronicle of a Vision), after premiering it at the Venice Film Festival’s last edition, on April 13.

“Edgar Reitz is not only the great chronicler of the German people. In an era that has seen a growing tendency towards nationalism and separatism, his Heimat offers an extraordinary prism through which to reflect on the concepts of home and homeland,” commented Locarno Film Festival’s Artistic Director, Carlo Chatrian.

The full programme of the second edition of L’immagine e la parola will be announced in March.
