“Venice Cinema in Beirut”, organised by the Venice Biennale – presided over by Paolo Baratta, together with the Italian Culture Institute in Lebanon – kicked off today and will run through Tuesday, February 25.

Four Italian films in the official 70th Venice Film Festival selection, directed by Alberto Barbera, will be presented at the Empire Sofil Metropolis - Acharafieh in the Lebanese capital.

The opening film tonight at 7pm will be The Intrepid [+see also:

Other initiatives have been undertaken in the past by the Biennale to promote Italian films abroad: in 2005 in Brazil, in 2006 in Russia, in 2009 in China, in 2012 in Korea. Films from the 70th edition of the film festival have already been screened in 2013 in Brazil and Korea. More screenings will follow in China, Russia and for the first time, in Croatia and Singapore.
