Written by Claire Paoletti, Patricia Valeix and Fabrice de Costil, the story focuses on Sacha, a young woman from the Russian aristocracy at the end of the 19th century. She dreams of the Far North and pines for her grandfather, Oloukine, a renowned scientist and Arctic explorer who hasn’t come back from his latest expedition to conquer the north pole – a mission that he had dedicated his entire life to. It is also a vocation that he passed on to Sacha, but one which is far from fulfilling her parents’ wishes; they are already arranging their daughter’s marriage. Feeling trapped, she rebels and runs away, determined to go and meet Oloukine at the very top of the world… 

Produced by Ron Dyens for Sacrebleu Productions (it constitutes the first feature film for the company, which had previously unveiled a two-minute-long pilot at Cartoon Movie 2012), Long Way North is being co-produced by Maybe Movies (the co-producer of Ernest & Célestine [+see also:

, nominated for this year’s Oscars), 2 Minutes, Danish studio Norlum and France 3 Cinéma. Having been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the title is also being backed by the CNC’s advance on receipts, Sofica Palatine, the Gan Foundation, the Lorraine, Alsace and Aquitaine regions, CUS, Procirep and the MEDIA programme, among other sources. Distribution in French cinemas will be handled by Diaphana and foreign sales by Urban Distribution International (UDI).
