Studio Hamburg and ZDF Enterprises start distribution outlet

Studio Hamburg Distribution & Marketing and ZDF Enterprises, the acquisition arm of German pubcaster ZDF, has launched a new distribution company, Studio Hamburg Enterprises, which is due to release its first title in theatres in May. The booking and billing will be handled by the service company 24 Bilder

The film that rounded off Cannes 2013, Jérome Salle’s Zulu [+see also:

, will kick off their theatrical distribution activities. In the dark action thriller, Hollywood star Orlando Bloom and Academy Award winning actor Forest Whitaker play inspectors in South Africa, where the ramifications of the apartheid regime are still visible. 

“We are delighted that our common distribution activities are going to start with an internationally acclaimed film such as Zulu, which we will distribute throughout the whole distribution chain,” said Christian Rönsch, managing director of Studio Hamburg Enterprises. After the theatrical release, as well as its release on DVD and Blu-ray, the film will have its television premiere on ZDF, on the popular programme “Montagskino”.

Studio Hamburg Enterprises has already released international feature films such as Inescapable by Ruba Nadda and the French action thriller The Lookout [+see also:

by Michele Placido on DVD and Blu-ray. “From now on, we will work together on the acquisition of films that we will distribute theatrically, via home entertainment and TV,” concluded Tanja Meier-Sieden, also managing director of the firm. The main purpose of the new company is the acquisition and distribution of film licences. Each of the two companies holds a 50% share in the new venture.
