French cinema admissions bounce back
- With 35.17 million admissions recorded for the first two months of the year, attendance levels are up 21.4% compared to early 2013
For three months in a row in France, attendance levels have been up on the preceding year’s figures. Such a positive trend has not been seen in French movie theatres since 2011. Following a 19.4% rise for December and a 22.8% increase for January, February actually took a total of 17.29 million admissions, an improvement of 20% compared to the same period in 2013, according to the CNC’s estimates.
In total, 35.17 million admissions were recorded over the first two months of 2014, which represents a 21.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
French productions have also been flourishing (see box-office news): their market share is reckoned to have been 45.3% over the first two months of the year (as against 37.2% in January-February 2013). American productions had a share of 40.5%, and feature films of other nationalities made up 14.2% of the market.
